JOHN HERBERT FOR A. YOUNGER
TEAK COFFEE TABLE
British, c1960s. A high end Afromosia teak coffee table by quality British maker A. Younger Ltd. Lovely angled legs and floating top surface. This coffee table was part of their many Danish design inspired ranges of the 1960’s.
Unlike many of the other British Mid Century makers who used wood veneers to finish their furniture, A. Younger opted for the more expensive solid teak and this was reflected in high purchase prices.
A. Younger Ltd was a high end British manufacturer who consistently spared no expense in producing furniture using solid teak wood rather than many other producers of the time who would typically employ veneer over cheaper materials such as ply or chipboard. Their pieces subsequently carried higher purchase prices. As a result, fewer pieces were purchased as the middle classes of the era often opted for the cheaper brands like G Plan. Today that means these high end Younger pieces are increasing rare to find and coveted.
