TEAK BOOKCASE

British, c1950s. Rarely seen Heals of London bookcase designed by Christopher Heal. Quality teak over ply construction with lovely contrasting tapering legs. Single adjustable shelf and removable glass doors.

Measures 114cm long x 69cm high x 30cm deep.

Son of furniture designer Ambrose Heal, he later became Design Director of the iconic family firm from 1952 and was at the forefront of the companies move towards Mid Century Modern & Scandinavian aesthetics. This range was brought out at the tail end of the British Utility Furniture movement and as an idea of it’s design significance a piece from this range is kept in the V&A archive. This bookcase hade been in the same family from new.

In excellent refinished condition with no damage to note just very minor signs of wear commensurate with age.
