ERNEST RACE FOR RACE FURNITURE

DA2 ARMCHAIR

British c1950s. Originally designed with Heals of London, the ‘DA’ is one of Ernest Race’s most iconic furniture ranges. Created at the time of the Festival Of Britain this chair was at the forefront of British Modernist Design and complemented the slightly larger DA1 armchair and DA6 sofa. The chair has a solid steel frame as Race was keen to utilise materials in abundance following World War 2. This is his take on the classic wingback armchair with a modernist twist. The very first DA range consisted of metal legs however this is the slightly later beech version.

A piece with a story - This chair has been in the same family from new since the early 1950s. A newlywed couple looking to furnish their first home purchased it direct from Race Furniture after visiting the Festival of Britain. I am told by the couples daughter that the husband (who worked in the furniture trade) even called up and spoke directly to Ernest Race to find out when it would be delivered.

The chair has been professionally upholstered with a high quality WARWICK WOOL BLEND FABRIC by a craftsmen with over 40 years experience in the trade. His work is exceptional.

Measures 66cm wide x 79cm high x 68cm deep.
